I am Trinidadian and received my undergraduate medical training at The University of the West Indies. I was a Basic Surgical trainee in Ipswich and Oxford. I was appointed a Specialist Orthopaedic Registrar on the East Anglian Rotation in 1999 and became interested in spinal surgery after working in Norwich and Ipswich. I did a 1 year spinal fellowship in Brisbane, Australia and was briefly Locum Consultant Spinal Surgeon in Ipswich. I was honoured to be invited to join the consultant staff at the N&N in June 2006 and am fortunate to have joined an experienced and friendly spinal team. I am looking forward to reinvigorating Med Chi and keeping it relevant to students and practising doctors.
Tom was President of Med Chi from July 2023 to February 2026. He has been a Consultant musculo-skeletal radiologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital since 1997.
His specialist interests include imaging in sports related injuries and spinal imaging/intervention and these were illustrated in his Presidential lecture in June 2024.
He is proud to have contributed to the training of a succession of MSK radiologists since 2005 at the Norwich Radiology Academy.
My main interests are the diagnosis and treatment of urinary stone disease. This includes both the use of advanced surgical techniques and minimally invasive intervention. My training has been in Cambridge, Norwich, Bristol, Johns Hopkins (Maryland USA) and Long Island Jewish Hospital (New York USA). Other major interests include benign prostate disease and day surgery in urology. I am the lead clinician for urology clinical governance and audit at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Richard England grew up in West Norfolk and studied Medicine in Sheffield. He continued specialist training in Sheffield and Leeds and undertook a fellowship in Cape Town. He moved back to Norfolk in 2013 to take up his current position as consultant in paediatric surgery here at the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital.
He now specialises in paediatric colorectal surgery and runs the Jenny Lind Paediatric Bowel Management Service. He is now developing research interests in this area alongside experts in the gut microbiome at Quadram Institute of Bioscience.
Over the last 5 years he has been fascinated by the treasure trove of documents in the Norfolk archives relating to Jenny Lind’s link with the city, as well as some of the other illustrious characters who walked the wards of the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. He is honorary secretary of the Norwich Medico-Chirurgical Society and a member of the Swedish Jenny Lind Society
Doreen is known to many as a radiology technician in the PACS office. She has also effectively run Med Chi since the hospital moved to the Colney Lane site. Other council members merely pass through.
Doreen has responsibility for many aspects of the Society’s functions including, membership, room booking, and liaising with speakers to ensure their IT system talks to our IT system. She also helps facilitate the awards and grants the society offers, as well as arranging the social gatherings for members.
Importantly Doreen retains the memory of the Society’s modern era.
