Norwich Medico-Chirurgical Society

Current Programme: 2026

All meetings start at 6.00 pm with refreshments followed by the talk at 6.30pm and are face to face in the Gooch Hall, East Atrium level 1, NNUH.

There has been a pause in meetings over the Autumn and Winter 2025-2026. However a reinvigorated Society and new President are currently preparing a new season of meetings and speakers for 2026-2027. The website will be updated as details are finalised. 

Thursday 19th March 2026, 6pm Medical Student Careers and Research Evening. The first of these events with over 60 medical students attending. We had a guest speaker Tom Marshall Radiologist speaking about his career in Radiology and our President Lennel introduced Orthopaedics, with a range of opportunities to link up to get involved in projects. Richard talked about his route to Paediatric Surgery from conjoined twins and gunshots to current projects in gut motility.

Tuesday 28th April 2026, 6pm Medical Student Careers and Research Evening. Another successful event with over 80 students attending. Prof Garg explained how NNUH are leading the way in cardiac MR signalling the death of the stethoscope! Prof Barry discussed the ethics of research in palliative care and the importance of coffee. Prof Gasparetto took us along his journey from Padua to our Jenny Lind hospital and his research into IBD.

Thursday 14th May 2026, 6pm Carlile Prize evening and guest Speaker Andoni Toms, Consultant Radiologist.

The Carlile prize is awarded to projects from Medical Students and Residents. £600 up for grabs!

Andoni Toms

Professor Toms was appointed at NNUH in 2002 after a fellowship in Toronto. He has been program director and radiology research lead. His interests lie in imaging of osteoarthritis and orthopaedic prostheses. 

His talk on 14th May follows the Carlile Prize entries and will demonstrate his journey through an academic career.
